2020 Athlete Checklist:
The following is a list of things to take care of before the season begins on MONDAY, AUGUST 10th, 2020.
--1. MDUSD ATHLETIC CLEARANCE and Other Forms. Athletes will not be allowed to practice with the team until parent has completed the MDSUD Athletic Registration Process, and obtain physician signature. Make a doctors appointment over the summer! Other forms include: Parent Contact Form (email essential as important meet and team information is sent weekly via email, Steroid Use Form, Concussion Form, and Transportation forms if applicable. This year the forms are all online at https://sportsnethost.com/concordhs-parent/index.php?page=sign-in (See the FORMS page of this site to download and print form the medical form, which needs to be uploaded into sportsnet after it is signed).
--2. ELIGIBILITY. Each grade report period. Athletes will not be allowed to compete as a member of the team without having achieved the minimum academic standard for interscholastic sport participation. This requires a 2/0 GPA for the Spring Semester. Incoming freshmen students must have a 2.0 GPA from their last quarter of 8th grade. Athletes must be taking and passing at least 20 units per quarter and must be making progress toward graduation.
--3. TEAM FEES. This year there is not a pay to play for sports in MDUSD. However, there are still expenses for the team. Athletes are expected to participate in fundraising events. Donations to the team are always accepted and greatly appreciated (See bottom of Parent Contact form).
--4. SUMMER TRAINING! Athletes are encouraged to attend the summer group training sessions from June 10th through August 7th! We will meet at Dave Brubeck Park @ Time/Days TBD. If unable to attend, run on your own! By the time practice starts, athletes should have a distance base of a minimum of 3 to 5 miles a day (15 to 30 or more miles a week) so that they are in shape and ready for the rigors of in-season training on August 10th and to help avoid injury. *This is all pending Shelter-In-Place order being lifted. (See the summer training calendar for details)
--5. SUMMER RACES. (Optional) Athletes are encouraged to run a 5K (or 10K) or two during the summer to prepare for the season. Signing up for a race is a good way to motivate athletes to train during the off season as it gives them a goal to work toward. *Again, pending Shelter-In-Place restrictions changing.
IF YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH #1 THROUGH #5 ON THIS LIST BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS YOU WILL BE SET TO HAVE A FUN AND SUCCESSFUL CROSS COUNTRY EXPERIENCE! REMEMBER: THE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM IS OPEN TO EVERYONE!
